I had the opportunity to attend Dr. Simon Yu's Acupuncture Meridian Assessment (AMA) Training course held in St. Louis on August 22-25, 2019. It was a course I had been wanting to attend for some time, and it was well worth the wait!
While much of the class is not appropriate for this blog entry and the below is not intended to teach AMA, I did learn a number of things throughout the course that I hope you will find helpful.

Simon Yu, MD presented and shared:
- Dental problems are often the primary issue.
- Parasite treatment with his protocols is relatively easy for most people to tolerate.
- You have to address the dental issues to truly solve the parasite issue.
- Higher doses of parasite medications lead to fewer side effects; lower doses lead to irritating the parasites and having them migrate to other parts of the body.
- He never uses just 1 parasite medication at a time.
- In his system, many of the points come from Chinese medicine, though there is an "Allergy-Immunology" point that came from the work of Dr. Voll; as did the point Dr. Yu uses for dental testing. The Allergy-Immunology point is more like an autoimmune response than an allergic response.
- In his work, he has to be neutral; forget intention, compassion, and the patient's story in order to get the clearest picture from his testing system.
- EAV (Electro-Acupuncture according to Voll) is perceived as difficult; AMA (Acupuncture Meridian Assessment) is not time consuming.
- Some people just don't get well, and other factors may need to be explored.
- In the AMA software with the Mora device, normal responses are green, low or chronic responses are blue, and inflammation or acute responses are red. Each device and software will have their own way of presenting the data.
- AMA combines the 5,000 year old disruptive technology of acupuncture with modern digital bioresonance technology.
- The scale of 0 to 600,000 Ohms is represented as 0-100 with 45-55 being "normal" or 1 standard deviation.
- Ivermectin, Pyrtantel pamoate, and Praziquantel combination is a common starting point for dealing with parasites; though Ivermectin is no longer available and thus, he may use Albendazole as a replacement.
- Had one mother as a patient that without his permission gave her parasite medication to her autistic child who went from an ATEC score of 109 to 9 and significantly improved.
- AMA is like "inspecting and tuning a violin".
- Dental stressors impact the rest of the body, and often, the body cannot be fixed until the dental issues are fixed.
- The LY2 point represents the lymphatic system of the jaw and is generally a good indicator for dental problems. On the right hand, this may represent a right-sided or upper dental issue. On the left side, this may represent a left-sided or lower dental issue.
- The Allergy-Immunology point may be an indicator for fungal colonizaton, environmental toxins, heavy metals, and EMFs.
- Any organism above a score of 9 on the dental testing from DNA Connexions ia statistically significant.
- American Metabolic Labs has a cancer profile that tracks PHI (Phosphohexose Isomerase) which can be a marker suggestive of cancer.
- When the liver or gallbladder point is positive, this is a parasite problem until proven otherwise. Albendazole, Pyrantel pamoate, and Praziquantel may be used.
- Melatonin spray can reduce pain in a dry socket after a dental procedure.
- Interference fields include parasites, dental issues, EMFs, and others.
- The dental point can pick up cavitations, TMJ, bite, or airway issues and has to then be further explored.
- Parasites can lead to clenching or grinding (bruxism).
- Dental caries can be a cause of nervous disorders.
- Dental point may be a clue for trigeminal nerve issues; gallbladder for vagus nerve issues.
- Every body system can be impacted by mercury.
- Many dental spirochetes mimic Lyme disease.
- In some cases, if someone is on treatment or well-supported, nothing may show up on the initial AMA scan. Provocation testing or "enhanced interrogation techniques" are then used. There are many ways to do this. Dr. Yu often needles the governing vessel point on the upper lip, conception vessel point on the chin, and the Shen Men "Battlefield Acupuncture" point on the ear. The AMA scan is then repeated as the provocation technique opens a window to deeper issues.
- When the combination of the dental, heart, and small intestine points show up, a common reason is the wisdom teeth (possible cavitations).
- After dental work, the combination of Doxycycline, Azithromycin, and Tinidazole often are helpful.
- The body may only give a signal for what it can handle now; 2 of 4 cavitation areas may stress when the X-Ray may show an issue with all four.
- 4.46 billion people in the world have parasites.
- Lower doses of parasite medications irritate the parasites and lead to internal migration.
- Most parasites are outside of the intestinal tract.
- You have to get rid of then entire ecoysystem; the parasites, fungi, and bacteria.
- Parasites can cause or suppress allergy problems.
- Psoriasis is often a parasite/fungal problem.
- Many cancer patients have a parasitic relationship that is sucking out their energy.
- Routine deworming of horses has moved their lifespan from 20-25 years to 40-45 years old.
- Deworming is the best anti-aging tool available.
- Parasites are the top of the food chain; fungi are the chief undertakers.
- Antibiotics upregulate parasites and fungi.
- When dental issues are present, bacteria, protozoa, and fungi are most commonly involved.
- The meridian system is part of the extracellular matrix.
- After parasite and fungal cleansing, the body will often release metals and environmental toxins.
- Rife machines do not work for larger parasites.
- Using interventions that do not kill parasites can drive them deeper into the system such as to the pancreas; leading to diabetes or cancer.
- Diatomaceous earth is not hitting parasites outside of the GI tract.
- In AMA, Dr. Yu measures 10 points on each hand and foot for a total of 40 key points. There are many more points that he may explore, but the foundational points are the 40.
The Allergy-Immunology point is what he calls the "modern diseases point". This may reflect heavy metals, environmental toxins, fungus, and EMFs.
- When the dental point tests low, this could be a bite problem or an infection.
- To balance dental infections, he may test Septra, Tinidazole, Clindamycin, Doxycycline and others.
- When the gallbladder meridian tests, consider nematodes; may explore Albendazole and Pyrantel pamoate.
- If the allergy point tests and Diflucan and Itraconazole balance the point, they are used together to avoid the fungi changing forms (dimorphic) and becoming resistant to the treatment.
- Clindamycin may be helpful for anaerobes and gram-positive bacteria.
- Implants as a general rule are not as bad as a root canal.
- Thyroid problems are dental in origin until proven otherwise.
- When someone has several issues such as parasites, fungi, and dental, he will work first on the non-dental items to prepare the body for the dental work.
- Natural remedies are too slow; microbes are evolving faster than we can in the soup of environmental toxins that we existing within.
- Homeopathy has become less effective over time due to toxicity and EMFs.
- It is not uncommon for the breast point to balance with Tinidazole as it supports amoebas. Breast point can also be associated with dental issues.
- We have all likely been exposed to prions to some degree.
- Parasites are masters of deception. They are like demons, and we need drug treatment followed by herbs for long-term support.
- People from India tolerate parasites due to the food they eat, but get sick when they start eating American foods.
- The large intestine or small intestine points testing low may indicate a nematode.
Gordon Johnson did a talk on introductory talk on EAV and shared:
- 1.4 volts are passed through the electrodes; we run in millivolts.
- Readings have become higher and higher due to our sympathetic dominant state, EMFs, heavy metals.
Helmut Retzek, MD from Vienna, Austria spoke and shared:
- Tocotrienols may be helpful in cancer.
- He works with "Renzo's Mirrors" developed by Renzo Celani and the system of Light Kinesiology.
- Simon Yu, MD is now in PubMed; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31202208
- Work like Dr. Yu's AMA system is moving medicine from guessing to knowing and from trying to treating.
- One needs a good liver/liver support to make DMSA work and a good kidney/kidney support for DMPS.
- In his experience, chlorella does not work for detoxifying the body.
- He mentioned Chris Shade's Liver Sauce.
- Cancer is a turning off of the immune system.
- 80% of health problems are dental problems.
- An intoxication such as metals, EMFs, emotions can lead to leaky gut and inflammation. We then have liver and kidney inflammation. Viruses such as EBV, CMV, HZV, HSV, HERVs result and later, parasites and fungal overgrowths.
- The immune system is at 3% capacity when there are chronic Herpes viruses.
- Vitamin D acts like cortisol in the body. If 1,25 D is higher than 1.3 ratio to D 25, this is a sign of a blocked VDR and poor immunity. Adding more D may lead to more immune suppression when the ration is high. K2 can help normalize the ratio.
- Autoimmunity is Th17 triggered by IL-17 that triggers the autoimmune response; Th2 model is old.
- Approaching chronic illness as only nutritional deficiency, only infection, or only mental never works; it is a combination of many things.
- He does not treat parasites if amalgams are still present.
- He may use DMPS or DMSA, liver support such as lecithin, charcoal, dandelion (for men) or a seven herb blend (women). May also use antiparasitics.
- Parasites live on bacteria; can treat parasites using antibiotics.
- Can improve acute mono / EBV with Metronidazole 500mg four times a day.
- There is a practitioner in Sao Paulo, Brazil that works with high doses of vitamin D for autoimmunity; Dr. Cícero Coimbra’s.
- Tinidazole impacts Lyme biofilms according to Eva Spai PhD's work.
- 20% of titanium implant carriers have titanium allergy. Can test with the LTT/MELISA.
- 80% of patient's issues are dental. Gold in the mouth keeps you from detoxifying all other metals.
Simon Yu, MD continued with sharing:
- Parasites and fungi are synergistic.
- Treatment minimizes the load of the parasites but may not entirely eradicate them.
- Cleanse the body, and then consider the energetic signature.
- It is harder to clear fungal overgrowths if living in a water-damaged building; need to consider both to cover the bases.
- He does cleansing and detox and then moves on to the dental issues.
- Co-infections become less of a problem after the parasite treatment and dental work.
- The gallbladder testing low in AMA is usually related to a parasite problem.
- With AMA, there is often a honeymoon effect where things appear balanced after the first round of treatment, but the problems may not be fully addressed yet (dental, etc.)
- Mycobacterium is becoming a bigger issue in his work.
- Parasite cleansing makes it easier to manage diabetes.
- If the treatment is not strong enough, the parasites may hide in the pancreas.
- Antifungals can also be antiparasitic.
- He now uses Albendazole instead of Ivermectin as it has become difficult to get.
- He never uses a single intervention to avoid resistance; combines several options from pharmaceutical and natural options.
- He may do 30 days of treatment and then 10 days each month around the full moon for 3-6 months.
- Some medications like Albendazole may result in the rise of other parasites such as Entamoeba.
- Parasite medications generally balance all the points other than the dental point and the Allergy-Immunology point.
- Toxic emotions are a huge contributor to chronic illness.
- Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) shows what has been happening in the last six months.
- Brain fog, concentration issues can be related to the gallbladder meridian.
- In AMA, 45-55 is generally thought of as balanced. If the reading is 42, the body may be able to heal. If it is 20, an intervention is likely needed.
- The practitioner needs to be physically fit to not be drained by doing the energetic testing.
- Natural tools can drive parasites deeper.
- When using antifungals, a combination of Nystatin (gut) and Fluconazole and Itraconazole (Candida, yeast, and mold) may be used.
- When a high number of AMA points are out of balance such as 17 of 40, he will start with the gut.
- There is a 95% success rate for pain with Battlefield Acupuncture using 5 points on the ear.
- At some point, the initial AMA testing will not show any results as the person may be balanced or have a treatment protocol that is supporting them. In these cases, he employs "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques" to stress the body and open the next layer. He then retests and can find additional stressors or imbalances that were not visible previously. He also humorously calls this "Operation Open Sesame".
- There are many approaches for enhanced interrogation, but these may include the use of acupuncture needles, mirrors, light, or other approaches.
- We are deficient in blue light (we are blue sky, blue planet, blue ocean). Blue is calming for inflammation.
- He incorporates Renzo's mirrors where your own polarized light is reflected back to you; only the healthy photons are reflected.
- He also uses the mirrors on his EAV plate as another enhanced interrogation technique.
- These are silver, gold, and aluminum mirrors with different absorption bands; which mirror is right for each patient has to be tested.
- When testing the points, each point is about the size of a pencil eraser. The angle, pressure, and moisture are all important considerations when reading a point.
- When starting to test, there is a "hand to hand" test done where 80-84 is the ideal response. However, over time, this number has gone up due to environmental toxins, heavy metals, EMFs, and higher sympathetic states.
- Tests that may be used to explore potential for cancer include American Metabolic Labs PHI (phosphohexose isomerase), HCG, PSA, and others.
Gary Wiele, DDS shared:
- When there is a grinding wear pattern, think apnea until ruled out.
- When there is scalloping of the tongue, think airway issues.
- Mouth breathers get less usable oxygen (Editor's note: This is one reason I mouth tape at bedtime nightly.)
- Tongue-tie is a common problem; videos on this topics from Dr. Zaghi, MD can be found on YouTube. A frenuloplasty may be considered when one has tongue-tie.
- The more acidic one is, the more likely apneic they are as well.
- Dr. Yu mentioned that many medical problems are caused by dental problems.
Simon Yu, MD continued and shared:
- Tinidazole and Azithromycin often balance the dental point when there is an infection. This may then be an indicator that a dental procedure may be needed. The testing medications may also then be taken the day of the dental work and for a period of time after the procedure.
- Praziquantel may help with flukes and Schistosoma. It is well-tolerated and done with other medications.
- Pyrantel pamoate may be used for pinworms.
- Mebendazole is similar to Albendazole.
- There have been reports of Niclosamide resolving pancreatic cancers in the German medical community.
- Itraconazole is often useful for mold and mold toxins.
- Fluconazole is used for Candida and yeast.
- He may use Fluconzaole with Itraconazole and Nystatin.
- Cholestyramine may be used for fungal mycotoxins.
- He always incorporates drainage support with homeopathic remedies.
- DMSA and DMPS may be used for heavy metals; can take years to get metals out. Lead and mercury are common.
- The gallbladder meridian can be involved in ringing in the ears.
- 1 of 2 men and 1 of 3 women developer cancer.
- Metals interfere with utilization of other minerals.
- He shared his own story of palladium toxicity and has been detoxifying and monitoring his PHI and considering apheresis. An article on this topic can be found here.
Stuart Moreland, DMD spoke and shared:
- You must have the proper treatment ad the proper time to gain a successful outcome.
- He would not have predicted some of the outcomes as a surgeon, but with Dr. Yu's assessment, has been world class.
- Has received many testimonials where chronic health conditions resolve.
- When Dr. Yu says "dental", he means teeth, jawbone, sinuses, head/neck.
- The key to establishing a proper diagnosis is to consider it in the first place.
- Lymphocytes testing such as the Clifford test can explore dental material compatibility; also one for surgical implants.
- DNA Connexions gives them the microbiology component.
- Chronic disease requires the proper intensive medical treatment at the proper time and proper sequence.
- Not all radiological findings are significant.
- Uses EAV in his practice as a supportive tool; machines do better than a best guess.
- Finds Physica Dental-Tox may balance some issues.
- Bisphosphonates, Factor Xa inhibitors, and immunosuppressants are red flags.
Dawn Ewing, PhD spoke and shared:
- Editor's Note: Dr. Ewing was an expert consultant to the movie Root Cause (https://rootcausemovie.com).
- Bach flowers and essential oils have a higher frequency.
- Lower frequencies correlate with illness.
- Sarcodes are higher frequency.
- 532 is the frequency of DNA and stem cells.
- 136.1 is the earth frequency.
- Negativity can only affect you if you are on the same frequency - vibrate higher.
- EKG is not dissimilar from EAV/AMA testing.
- Energy happens before chemistry.
- The points being tested are not diseases but are energetic disturbances.
- Isotopes have been injected into meridians and tracked.
- Even with a soft toothbrush, mercury vapor release increases.
- Removing blocks from the meridians is like having a vacuum helicopter to suck out the floodwaters that are blocking the freeways.
- Removing the tooth, periodontal ligament, and damaged bone allows the energy to reconnect like splicing a wire on a lamp cord.
- Titanium will often blow out a meridian.
- With higher readings, this may be inflammation; with lower, degeneration.
- A healthy, happy cell has two electrons. A free radical is one electron. If the reading for a tooth goes lower and lower and lower, this is a sign of degeneration.
- Best to not use ice after dental surgery; you want the blood to carry away the toxins and do not want to block the healing process.
- Neural therapy provides a way for energy to scoot through an area.
- Dr. Voll's points are not always acupuncture points.
- Teeth are organs; they have their own lymph, blood, and nerve supply.
- A healthy tooth detoxes to the outside; an unhealthy one takes things in.
- Outside the tooth is tooth poop which is why your mouth smells like sh%$.
- With AMA testing, you don't have to worry about having the substance in your system recently like you may with other types of dental compatibility testing.
- One can create autosodes from the proceeds of a cavitation surgery; essentially an inversion.
- Dental material testing can be done using applied kinesiology, blood serum compatibility, AMA.
- Amalgam is 50% mercury, 35% silver, 13% tin, 2% copper, and a trace of zinc.
- The pink in dentures is cadmium.
- Titanium: 1% are allergic, can short out meridians. All titanium has nickel in it; many are sensitive to nickel.
- Dental compatibility testing should be done for anesthetics, filling materials, crown materials, cements, temporary materials, dentures or partials, orthodontic materials, bleaching, and toothpastes.
- Clifford or Biocomp are the only two labs available for compatibility testing.
- Some like to create a homeopathic such as with a cup of water with a couple of drops of an anesthetic succussed. Then after giving the anesthetic, the homeopathic can be taken to help the body deal with it.
- She has found that people tolerate fewer materials if they have higher levels of Candida.
- AMA is electrons in, electrons out. You don't want to see a fall or drop in the reading.
- You can have a cavitation where you never had a tooth.
- It is possible to have a meridian that does not have enough energy to nurture a tooth bud.
- One simple test is to breath through a straw; if the pulse oximeter drops or the person feels worse, give more straws. If that improves things, they may need to explore better airway support.
- Putting a crown on a tooth is smothering the tooth; the "tooth poop" is then stuck inside.
- Having an acidic pH could be related to airway restriction.
- Bras on many women are too tight and choke off the lymphatic drainage and impact the teeth.
- Root canals (dead teeth) are a gap in the wiring.
- If testing shows an issue with a tooth and it is not the tooth, you have to consider the associated organs.
- Mentioned oraldna.com as a source for dental testing.
- The tooth is connected to the jaw by a ligament; most dentists take out the tooth but leave the ligament.
- Hypericum can be a good tool for nerve pain.
- Risk factors for cavitations: smoker, protein C or S deficiency, anti-inflammatories, vasoconstrictors, poor circulation, disease, pathogens, trauma.
- Root canals produce thioethers and mercaptans which were used in wars as nerve agents.
- Root canals and cavitations are more toxic than mercury.
Carolyn L. Winsor spoke and shared:
- She was the former managing director of the Occidental Institute Research Foundation.
- Rose is a high frequency. When people see angels, they smell roses.
- She reviewed the history of EAV.
- Has taken groups to tour Europe and attend Medicine Week for many years to share these tools with the world.
Simon Yu, MD on the final day and shared:
- Know our energy, yourself, and the terrain.
- Parasites are an asymmetric threat; as are dental issues.
- In AMA, children tend to test high; adults low.
- When he tests using AMA for environmental toxins and gets a positive response, 80% of the time, he sees significant environmental toxins on the Great Plains GPL-Tox.
- High organophosphate toxicity mimics ALS.
- Many immune systems are near bankruptcy; people are barely hanging in there and then crash.
- Crimes, murder, and miracles all happen in the dental chair.
- The last exercise of the weekend was for each of us to test Dr. Yu with a blindfold on! It was not a required activity, and I wasn't sure I was going to attempt it, but what kind of an ending would that be to my blog post? Fortunately, I passed the test!
My final thoughts:
- Dr. Yu is as leader in identifying root causes of chronic health challenges often overlooked by conventional medicine.
- I personally have benefited from my work with him in 2013, 2015, and 2019. He identified my cavitations, bite issue, and parasites.
- His testing system has evolved over many years to being a simple and yet elegant system of exploration.
- His AMA class is one I would definitely recommend to practitioners interested in doing this type of testing in their practices.
- His recent book AcciDental Blow Up in Medicine: Battle Plan for Your Life is a fantastic resource for patients and clinicians alike. I highly recommend it if you are interested in learning more about the often unexplored contributors to chronic health challenges.
